Looking Ahead – 2020 Vision

Happy New Year! NYE was a low key effect at the Birnschein house. Jen, Kayli and I did made it to midnight. We realize that we are getting out of touch by all of the performers and people that we didn’t know. Fun…

I’m spending this morning getting my thoughts out here while drinking a strong cup o’ Joe. There’s a 5k race at 10:30 this morning that I’m not particularly excited about, but we’ll get it done. The race directors tried something new with this one that I don’t love all that much with the age groups. In an effort to have an equal amount of competitors in each group, the groups are rearranged and out came a 20-41 age group. What??? I’m 41, so I guess I’ll have a tough go in trying to place today haha.

So, I stopped writing here and then raced. I was right about the tough go.

In other news, it’s time to get SERIOUS about my running. After I ran the Runner’s World Grand Slam in October, I decided to take it easy and ran how I pleased. I gave myself until January 1 to live that life and now it’s time to pay up! I started with a 5k this morning and boy oh BOY did it hurt to run as hard as I did. I ended up in 6th overall with a 20:10. I’ve had better times, but I ran with guts. I’ll take that. Look at this crew. They’re the best!

What a good looking group…

I made my decision to run Blue Ridge a couple of months ago, but I decided to head back to Virginia Beach to run Shamrock again!  I REALLY liked this race last year (the after party isn’t half bad either!) and since the opportunity to run for Team BibRave opened up again, how could I say no? I plan to be ready to hit it harder this time around. I’ll have goals…

Who wouldn’t want to get in on THIS again? I love you, Shamrock.

After Shamrock will come Blue Ridge! The goal here is to survive over 7,000 feet of elevation change. Running buddy and Longwood XC Coach Brooke is writing me up a plan to take this thing on. Don’t have a Coach Brooke in your life? You can always try a virtual training plan! Use code TRAINSMART for $5 off the plan of your choice until 1/5. Blue Ridge is local-ish for me and I have friends that know it well, so this is going to be AWESOME.

Wanna join me? Use code BRMRAVE for 20% off of the race distance of your choice!

It says, “America’s Toughest”. That’s all I need to know.

These will keep me busy for a little while. Running just for pure enjoyment was a great feeling, but I’m ready to run to smash goals. Here we go…

  1. Holy cow-you’re doing the Blue Ridge Marathon?!?! I know the Blue Ridge mountains just from visiting family in a cabin they have there, and I cannot even imagine. I can’t wait to hear all about it! Happy training in 2020!

    1. I’m kinda freaking out. Blue Ridge will be a challenge for sure but a great experience. 😀

Thanks for taking the time to read my posts, even though it’s ALWAYS about running and rarely about amazing food. 😀

      1. Of course! I really enjoy reading your posts- I learn a ton about the different races and products. It’s particularly helpful because I feel like such a pre-historic runner; I use nothing but shoes and a watch (the watch during races, not even much during training hahah). Also, it’s making me want to find a running group here. Time is soo slim these days, but I think it’d be a great way to socialize. Have a great weekend ahead!

      2. Part of me wishes I could be a prehistoric runner, but there’s no going back now. I’m spoiled! 😂

The running group is great. We push each other, support each other and drink coffee with each other. 😀
