Happy Monday to you (or at least not super crappy)! I had one of those weekends where I blinked and was back at work this morning. That’ll happen. On a good note, I RAN 13 PAIN-FREE MILES yesterday! They weren’t REALLY pain free, but they were only the “regular” pains of a long run. There will be more to follow on that, but for now it’s product review time!

This time around I tried out a supplement called BCAA Big 6 (grape AND watermelon), made by a company called Now Foods. What are BCAAs, you ask? Good question. Before I was given the opportunity to try them, I had no idea.

Branched Chain Amino Acids are essential amino acids that serve as the building blocks of protein, which helps to fuel your muscles during workout and can also help support muscle recovery post-workout. They’re called essential because the body doesn’t make them on its own, so you need to supplement or get from them from your diet.

BCAA Big 6 which is a vegan, caffeine-free formula of BCAAs, plus betaine to help maintain fluid balance, and taurine, which can further support endurance.

BCAA Big 6 is caffeine free, but I know where to get my caffeine.

According to the container, BCAA Big 6 can be taken before, during or after exercise. I don’t drink a ton when I run, so I mainly drank Big 6 before and after. I did drink it during my kettlebell workouts though.

I added a full scoop to 16-20oz of water in a shaker cup. It dissolves easily. Both watermelon and grape taste pretty great, although I detect a little more of an “aftertaste” in the watermelon. Bonus: I refilled my shaker with water after drinking BCAA Big 6 without rinsing and it had some residual flavor. That was actually pretty delicious, kinda like flavored water.

That hot pink is watermelon. There aren’t enough watermelon flavored drinks in the world.

It’s always hard to say just how much of a difference supplements can make. With any workouts, I have my good days and my bad. The way I see it, BCAA Big 6 is another tool to add to our tool belts to set us up for success. I’ve enjoyed using it so far and it’s been the only supplement or sports drink I’ve had in the last 2-3 weeks.

From now until November 15, 2018, use code 20NOWBCAA on Amazon.com (or visit this link) for 20% off both varieties of BCAA Big 6. Code is limited to one-time use only.
