Happy Friday to you! This is fantasy football draft Friday, which is like a combo of the 4th of July and Thanksgiving. My co-workers and I are pretty excited. I’m going to be one co-worker short though, as my great friend and now running buddy Lil’ Code is moving on to bigger things. I’ve been mean to him all week. It’s how I cope.
Facts about me…Things that I hate:
- Black Olives (any olives really)
It’s mostly the texture of coconut that I hate, but the taste doesn’t do it for me either. I could maybe drink a Pina Colada if that was the ONLY drink available. Malibu Rum? Gross. If you’ve ever seen Zombieland, Woody Harrelson’s character goes on a great rant about why coconut is not good.
This post is about my review of a product that I was extremely excited to try out, mostly because I’ve been looking for something with the health benefits of a coconut without the horrible other parts of a coconut. Detach to the rescue!
I tried Ellie-Ade, a naturally flavored lemon-lime. The flavor wasn’t overwhelming, but it was good. Like many runners, my tummy doesn’t want anything too strong of flavorful. We don’t want to do anything to encourage unplanned pit stops, right?
The bottle uses the term “Pre-Activity Nutrition” to describe Detach, but I could see it working both ways (pre AND post). I also drank it after some tough workouts and it seemed to perk me up a little from the summer beatdown. On my long run day, I was smart enough to freeze one and then by the time my run was over is was slushy. NOTHING BEATS THAT.
All in all, I think this is a great drink. It was easy on the taste buds, easy on the stomach and it’s easy on the wallet. Does it improve performance? I don’t know. It certainly won’t hurt. 🙂
